Courthouse Steps
This quilt was inspired by the quilters of Gees Bend, Alabama.
It was designed to honor the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.
The pattern is a variation on the traditional log cabin quilt pattern.
The 9 steps in grey tones with slivers of pink represent the historically male justices of the Supreme Court and the women behind those men who supported them and contributed to their success - wives, mothers, sisters etc.
The 9 steps in pink tones speak to Justice Ginsburg’s famous response when asked “When will there be enough women on the Supreme Court?” and her reply “When there are nine.”
The front of the quilt is made entirely from repurposed men’s and women’s suits, skirts, and blazers.
Size: 44 x 46 inches.
